NFL - Not Freakin Logical

NFL might relocate Saints' home opener

BY RALPH VACCHIANO
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

With part of the Louisiana Superdome roof in tatters thanks to Hurricane Katrina, the NFL is considering moving the Giants' Sept. 18 game against the Saints to LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., the Alamodome in San Antonio or Reliant Stadium in Houston, league sources said.

According to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, the league has not ruled out playing the game as scheduled in New Orleans. However, with two large sections having been ripped from the Superdome roof, with more than 10,000 people inside using it for an emergency shelter and with floods ravaging the devastated city, that doesn't seem possible. The game - the Saints' home opener -- is less than three weeks away.

"We continue to monitor the situation, but no decisions have been made," Aiello said. "We are talking to the Saints and exploring alternatives should the game need to be relocated. The goal would be to play it as close as possible to New Orleans. LSU and cities in Texas are among the candidates."

Baton Rouge is the closest option, about 90 minutes away, and Tiger Stadium is available that day.
